What is FORTIFIED?
FORTIFIED is an IBHS program that addresses how a roof is built for severe weather. It includes requirements for details such as the roof deck and edges, plus documentation and evaluation.
A roof is not designated FORTIFIED simply because a particular shingle or metal panel is used. Plan with a qualified contractor and evaluator before installation.

Before the work starts
Use the official site for your policy. Submit the requested property information and photographs through that program’s portal.
Follow the approval instructions, contractor requirements and evaluator process before authorizing roofing work. Do not assume an existing project can be reimbursed.
Complete the required evaluation and designation process, then submit the program’s final documents through its official portal.
Keep policy numbers, tax forms and identification documents off this roofing website. Submit sensitive grant information only through the official program channels. Ask the program about current deadlines, contractor participation and payment timing.
Useful answers
No. The grant program determines eligibility, reserves funding and handles grant payment. Maddox can discuss the roofing work and estimate; we cannot guarantee approval or reimbursement.
The selected roof system must meet the applicable IBHS requirements and be documented through the evaluation process. Discuss the proposed metal system with the contractor and evaluator before installation.
No. A voluntary roof-replacement grant and insurance coverage for a loss are different. Ask your insurer and the program how any covered damage affects participation.
Confirm the program’s current contractor requirements before you sign or schedule work. Use the official contractor directory and verify current certification and participation for the program you intend to use.
Maddox is not NCJUA, NCIUA or IBHS. Program administrators and your insurance representative are the authorities for eligibility and policy questions.
